KARACHI — Andrew Sisson Mission Director USAID (United States
Agency for International Development) has stated that various
agribusiness projects will create 1.3 million jobs.
The projects will be funded by the American people and enforced by the Agribusiness Support Fund (ASF). Andres Sisson signed a memorandum of understanding with Sindh Enterprise Development Fund (SEDF) on behalf of USAID’s ASF to assure the cooperation in the fields of agriculture & agribusiness with the due concentration on small and medium size enterprises. He noted that though 21% GDP, 44% labour force & 70% of Pakistan’s exchange profits was associated with agriculture. He stressed the need to adopt new agricultural techniques and technological conception. He also informed that USAID has just signed an agreement with HEC to set up three centers in three universities for agriculture, water and energy studies (these universities would be linked with American universities so that they could share knowledge).
