NATIONAL – Engr. Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, Chairman of Kalabagh dam
movement said Pakistan is leading towards severe water shortfall as
Indian government has decided to construct seven dams on rivers running
into Pakistan for held Kashmir.
He said that Pakistan has the right to contradict Indian dam projects
as well fighting Kishanganga project because its diversion will dilute
more than 20 percent of the power production capacity of the 975
megawatts (MW) Neelum-Jhelum power project on the same river downstream
Muzaffarabad in Azad Kashmir. Ha also said that Pakistan has sheer
rights on these rivers, as it falls in Pakistan and under the Indus
Water Treaty India is breaching the agreement. He said the government
should raise voice on an international platform so that Indian
government cannot breach the contract by building dams on the river
flowing into Pakistan. He further said that the country is moving
forward blindly and will have to face severe water deficit in the near
future because of poor water management and storage capacity.
